and foremost, I would like to thank you all for making Wheels for a Cure 2017 a huge success! This year we were able to see
our biggest turnout yet: about 85 vehicles that were made up of both new faces and returning participants. With the ride alone
we were able to raise over $19,000 for the JDRF, and we cannot thank you all enough for helping accomplish that feat. It is
always an incredible feeling for me to witness the amount of support and generosity that is shown every year. It is very hard
for me to believe this was our 9th year organizing the fundraiser, as well as 9 years since my diagnosis.
Over these past 9 years my family and I have witnessed this ride grow from a dozen
or so bikes to nearly 90. It has been amazing for us to see people who continue to return and even invite more to come along
with them. I am also proud to say that because of this event, the Wheels for a Cure walk team is recognized as one of the
top family teams at the Busse Woods (Schaumburg) location for the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. All of this being said, my family
and I have put a lot of thought into how we want to go about fundraising for this year's walk event.
As some may or may not know, we have a lot on our plate for the upcoming year.
I will be getting ready to head off to college, and the transition will be a lot for both me and my parents. The unfortunate
reality for us is that come August, I will be getting moved out of the house and situated in my new dorm. As part of this
transition, my family and I have collectively decided to switch gears as far as our means of fundraising.
We will continue to fundraise for the JDRF; we will just be doing things a little
differently. The JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes is the premiere source of funding for the JDRF's research into making life
with Type One Diabetes easier to manage, as well as their research on a hopeful cure for diabetes. I would love to see as
many faces from the ride as we can at the walk. One of my main goals is to be the biggest family team represented on walk
day and to continue to support the cause as best we can. Anyone who would like more info on the walk, the transition, or anything
else can either contact me or my parents.
Again, thank you
all for your continued support of our fundraiser. As I told someone on the day of Wheels last year, our ride is nothing without
the amazing people who come out for it every year.
